|Ginger is hot these days. It has always been a hot spice (the way pepper is hot); but now it's hot as in au courant or trendy. And, while grating and squeezing ginger and making your own juice isn't a chore, it does take a bit of planning (you need to have ginger on hand) and a good deal of fresh ginger to get a couple of tablespoonfuls. Well the Ginger People of Monterey, California, have come up with a solution. Fresh pressed natural ginger juice in a bottle.
The first thing you'll want to check out is the label. Someone very clever with a good sense of humor designed this label. A jolly cartoon-like figure (of ginger of course) is stomping ginger in a barrel. If nothing else makes you want to grab this off the shelf, this little guy will. Then you'll taste it and be glad you did. The flavor is pure ginger and once you try it you'll find lots of uses for it.
It makes a real great salad dressing. Whisk it together with a little soy sauce, honey, a touch of dark sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds then use as a dressing for a cool spinach salad. It'll perk up your favorite barbecue sauce or, if you're so inclined, you can simply stir a tablespoon into ketchup for a spicy burger topping. Add it to a saute or stir-fry, or a vegetable dish where you'd like a little zing. A healthy dose of ginger juice, a little olive oil, minced garlic and chopped cilantro makes a wonderful marinade for chicken or fish. Or stir a little ginger juice into your favorite drink to spice it up. Its great in cooked fruit desserts and tropical fruit salads. As a matter of fact, it's good in almost anything. We haven't tried it in gingerbread or gingersnap cookies yet but we're planning on it.
