In almost two decades of working as a physician, Dr. Montes has cared for clients in many settings including emergency rooms, trauma centers, nursing homes and private and county clinics. These years have educated her as to what western medicine does well - it keeps the physical body alive. However, in her experiences Dr. Montes has learned the importance of addressing not only the palpable signs of disease and dysfunction but also nourishing the underlying mental, emotional and spiritual maladies that often accompany medical ailments. Dr. Montes is committed to providing patient care in a caring and compassionate environment. As both a physician and an educator she instills in her students and her patients an empowerment to take charge of patient care in a way that respects each person's unique experience and worldview.

As an educator Dr. Montes has taught first and second year medical students about various alternative therapies such as biofeedback, acupuncture, hypnosis and osteopathy. She has also lead courses for medical students regarding the doctor patient interaction, which stress the need for sensitivity toward the emotional and psycho-social toll that often accompanies disease. As a conduit between the Western and traditional medical worlds, Dr. Montes has also taught courses to Ayurvedic parishioners explaining the Western medical model of anatomy, physiology, diagnosis, and disease.

Her experience has led her to believe that, "each individual's path to health is as unique as the individual's DNA." That is why she continues to listen and learn from all healing traditions. "Healing - wholeness is our essential nature. It is how we are meant to be and operate on this planet. Sometimes we just need a little information, coaching or support on this journey." It is this collaborative partnership for wellness that Dr. Montes seeks to build with those she serves.

Dr. Montes's particular research interests involve women’s health including: infertility, perimenopause, menopause and dysmenorrhea. She also has an interest in the health of seniors and chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome. Dr. Montes, formerly in the position of Director of Clinical Services for the University of Maryland Center for Integrative Medicine, created a locus of healing for patients, students, and colleagues alike.
